Athletic Massage: For Everybody, Not Just the Pros!

Athletic massage is an excellent tool, not just for the pro athlete or the weekend warriors, but also for anyone who’s working to get into better shape. Getting into better shape takes more than just getting into the gym or onto the treadmill in your basement; you also have to take care of your muscles.

I always recommend that you hydrate while exercising and after your massage, too.

3 Facts about Athletic Massage
1. Muscle Growth, Flexibility and Recovery. Let’s face it, your workout at the gym is designed around making your muscles work hard for many reasons, like better health and an improved physical appearance. Afterwards, you probably tend to ignore their needs and just complain about the soreness until the Advil kicks in. With athletic massage, the muscle will properly recover, resulting in less soreness and also helping you to reach your ultimate goal of lengthening and stretching your muscles.

2. One word: motivation. Massage helps your muscles lock in that great feeling you get from exercise, and reduces the soreness you feel the next day (and the next day, etc, etc.) so you’ll be motivated to keep exercising. Feeling great post-workout is a much better incentive for going back to the gym than feeling sore.

3. It’s fun! Many people have a great workout and then reward themselves with food–we’ve all done it! But running home to a bowl of mac and cheese or an ice cream sundae after your workout only undos all your hard work. Why not schedule an athletic massage to reward yourself for working out?

Massage and exercise are part of a healthy routine. Treat your body right post-workout, and it will do what you need it to do during the workout–it may do even more than you expected!
